360 photography for the project

The King Khalid University project demonstrates our 360 photography and university virtual-tour work in Asir and Saudi Arabia, turning a real campus into an explorable digital experience.

Business objective

The goal was to make the tour useful for students, visitors and delegations: ask for a destination, identify the place, start a documented route through captured scenes and receive visual and voice guidance until arrival.

What we delivered

We built a campus experience layer on top of the existing 360 assets, connected scenes into a route graph and added Arabic/English search, voice commands, a smart map, curated journeys, scene-aware direction arrows and prerecorded Modern Standard Arabic navigation guidance.

Value & outcome

The experience demonstrates what a university virtual tour in Saudi Arabia can become: not only remote 360 viewing, but a digital campus guide for orientation, visitor communication and clearer spatial understanding before arrival.

Project context

A university tour that does more than show the campus — it helps visitors find their way

King Khalid University is a Saudi university in the Asir Region. Its strategic direction focuses on human empowerment, regional development and economic enhancement. In a large academic environment with many facilities, a digital campus experience can support more than marketing: it can help new students, visitors and delegations understand the campus before they arrive.

The project started with an existing 360 tour containing captured scenes and navigation links. Instead of discarding that asset, 360Riyadh developed an AI Campus Explorer layer that uses the existing panoramas and adds search, routing, map context and guided journeys. The result feels closer to a digital campus guide than a panorama gallery.

This approach has wider relevance for universities, colleges, schools and education campuses across Saudi Arabia. A university virtual tour can support admissions, orientation, virtual visits, delegations and education marketing, and can later evolve into broader indoor wayfinding when detailed building and route data are available.

The challenge: turning dozens of scenes into a route people can understand

In a conventional virtual tour, users can click hotspots and move between panoramas, but they may not know where they are or which sequence will take them to a destination. As the number of buildings, entrances and facilities grows, the scene list itself becomes a navigation problem.

We needed to preserve the original imagery while building route logic on top of it. Scene connections were reviewed and represented as a route graph, destination approach points were defined where needed, and the route arrow was connected to the actual hotspot direction inside the panorama so the visual instruction stays aligned with what the visitor sees.

What the KKU AI Campus Explorer includes

01

Smart place search

Search Arabic or English destination names against the known places in the captured tour.

02

Voice commands

Visitors can tap the microphone and say a clear destination name to start a new route when a confident match exists.

03

Step-by-step navigation

A documented route network across captured scenes with progress, next destination and previous/next controls.

04

Panorama-aware direction arrow

The next route direction is projected into the current view using hotspot position and viewer orientation.

05

Smart campus map

An interactive map that presents current position, destination and the active route across tour points.

06

Campus Journeys

Curated journeys for use cases such as new students, campus visitors, administration and sports life.

07

Natural Arabic voice guidance

Prerecorded fully diacritized Modern Standard Arabic instructions for straight, right, left, turn-around and arrival.

08

Arabic & English interface

A bilingual, mobile-first experience for local and international visitors.

The value of university virtual tours and campus wayfinding in Saudi Arabia

For admissions and university marketing, a campus virtual tour helps prospective students and families explore the learning environment before an on-site visit. Buildings, facilities and services can be presented inside one coherent digital experience instead of being fragmented across image galleries and videos.

For student orientation, a Campus Explorer can introduce high-value destinations and common routes before the first day on campus. For official visits and delegations, the same link can be shared in advance to provide spatial context before arrival.

Indoor navigation and campus wayfinding are a natural extension of this model. When accurate corridors, floors, elevators and building data are available, the experience can evolve from scene-to-scene 360 guidance into a broader indoor navigation system.

University virtual tours and campus wayfinding in Saudi Arabia

360Riyadh develops university virtual tours in Saudi Arabia, including campus 360 photography, interactive spatial experiences, destination search and indoor navigation when the project requires it. The approach can be applied to universities, colleges, schools, institutes and large education campuses across the Kingdom.

For organizations searching for a university virtual tour Saudi Arabia, campus virtual tour, smart campus experience, university wayfinding or indoor navigation for universities, this project shows the difference between a basic panorama tour and a guided spatial product. Photography is the foundation, while the product value comes from routes, destinations, data and task-oriented interaction.

AI in virtual tours does not need to mean an open chat box on every screen. In this project the interaction is guided: the user states a destination, the system matches it, calculates a route through known scenes and presents appropriate instructions. This model is practical for universities, hospitals, campuses and other large facilities where predictable navigation matters.

Technology behind the AI Campus Explorer

  1. krpano for high-performance delivery of the original 360° scenes.
  2. A route graph built from documented scene connections with route calculation between destinations.
  3. Spherical hotspot coordinates combined with viewer orientation to display the next-step arrow in the correct direction.
  4. Web Speech Recognition for supported browsers with Arabic and English place matching.
  5. Prerecorded natural Modern Standard Arabic navigation clips instead of relying on robotic device speech.
  6. Interactive map, curated journeys, arrival experience and responsive mobile/desktop interface.

Frequently asked questions

What is a 360° university virtual tour?+

It is a web experience that connects panoramic images of buildings and facilities so students and visitors can remotely explore the campus from a phone or computer.

Can a virtual campus tour help visitors navigate?+

Yes. When scenes and connections are documented, route logic, arrows, maps and step-by-step guidance can be added. More detailed floor-level wayfinding requires additional indoor route data.

Does voice search support Arabic?+

Yes on browsers that support speech recognition. In the KKU experience, a clear Arabic destination name can be recognized and used to start a new route.

Can the AI Campus Explorer model be applied to another university?+

Yes. The architecture is reusable, but each campus requires its own scene inventory, destinations, route graph and verified spatial data.
