Prince Sultan University was inaugurated in 1999 by the late Crown Prince HRH Sultan bin Abdulaziz, who was then Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General. It had been established earlier by the Al-Riyadh Philanthropic Society for Science (RPSS) under the auspices of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, when he was the Governor of Riyadh Region and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the RPSS.
